Nobel Piece of Afghanistan

December 12, 2009

There is a plan
For Afghanistan
Called “Thirty thousand more troops.”
Our young and brave
Will be filling graves
Of poor farmers for American suits.

Collateral damage
From our rampage
Is unfortunate, but let’s see the context;
Innocents die
And mourners cry
For our military industrial complex.

“Make no mistake,
Our security breaks
For trans-nationals and energy looters,
A gas pipeline
Is really designed
For our appetite amidst Taliban shooters.

We cannot cower
At Taliban power
Or al Qaeda who recruits more fans,
We must be firm
And never learn
That we don’t own Afghanistan.

“We cannot say
A civil war’s underway,
But there’s a lot of internal fighting;
Let’s help them lead
By letting them bleed,
But that’s not in my script I’m reciting.”

The Nobel Piece Man’s
Trans-national plan
Will liberate their energy resources.
And come what may
For our new LBJ,
History keeps repeating these courses.

Nationalize Renewable Energy Independence

December 7, 2009

Over the past one hundred plus years,
We cultured our taste for oil;
Not animal, vegetable, or mineral,
But petrol deep in the soil.

Our voracious appetite
Included unsustainable fuels;
Coal and nuclear were also tried–
Profits for short term fools.

But now the Earth is a sickly patient
Suffering from a greenhouse heater;
The warming of the world’s oceans
Is ignored by corporate leaders.

Profits drive for short term gains
Every corporate quarter;
If earnings don’t bring bigger stocks,
Investors leave for the border.

We must think in the long term;
Find sustainable energy fuels,
Solar, wind, and hydro can
Be our ever renewable tools.

These Earth-friendly resources
Are abundant for the people at hand;
The wind and sun aren’t commodified–
And all people profit from demand.

“We the People” own our land,
And energy is a national resource,
Let’s nationalize our energy needs
Move forward in a renewable course.
