War Drones On

May 21, 2009

Fingers flicker on keyboards
Like cold bone digit vibrations,
They rattle on in clicking pace
For numerical destinations.

No more sitting in cockpits;
No need to leave your abode.
No more hand-eye coordination
When innocent homes explode.

Drones fly quietly in Afghanistan,
But nobodies in the flight.
Just the demonic payload
That will end many people’s lives.

Payload buttons are pre-programmed;
You get paid to type in numbers.
No finger prints on destroy sticks;
No view of victims slumber.

The planes fly empty like many words,
And morality is on the leave;
Empire keeps reacting
As deserts continue to bleed.

No words are found in the press;
Nothing makes the front page,
Just the quiet, flying assassins
Drone on in silent rage.

Medicare for All

May 6, 2009

Twenty-four cents on every dollar
Pay private healthcare cost,
Going to advertising and stockholders;
The uninsured wander lost.

Medicare, on the other hand,
Administered by people in the gov,
Costs only three cents on the dollar;
A health plan we can love.

Saving tax dollars for “We the People,”
With every dollar readily insured,
would spread the risk and lower taxes,
A point that’s hardly heard.

When forty million don’t have coverage
And they get sick and deathly ill,
Private insurers raise their rates
Squeezing the middle class with the bill.

It really make just perfect sense
that the government insures us all,
Reducing the cost for everyone;
It’s a plan that we need to install.

NAFTA Flu

May 1, 2009

Factory plows
Cattle clouds
Encircle sulfur skies,
Manure mounds
In toxic towns;
No alarms
No surprise.

Conagra
Takes Viagra
And inserts their CEO,
In government tents
Where money’s spent
For Cargil and Monsanto.

Meanwhile…

Poor Mexicans
Are at it again,
Work in unsafe slaughter plants,
Losing limbs
Their pain begins
Let go from circumstance.

No recourse
Under force
And no union for a safe new deal,
No time to bleed
For corporate greed,
No room for a Happy Meal.

Burger King
And Mickey’s bling,
Disturb foreign agri-cultures,
From Brazil,
Natives will
Slash and burn for agri-vultures.

Taco Bell
And Wendy’s sell
Junk food to our younger kids,
Obesity,
Diabetes,
Health crashes with bigger skids.

Ad campaigns
Like gravy trains,
Sway ignorant parent consumers,
Jingles jangle
Traps entangle
Seismic smiles and profit tumors.

Torte reform
Like monsters born
Reject any punitive damages.
Judges agree,
The penalty
Not include fast food sandwiches.

The monster walks
And legally talks
Through the power of the quarterly purse,
Then customers learn,
It’s now their turn
To be consumed in a drive through hearse.
